Before NBC had the hit show "My Name is Earl," there was an original Earl.

This Earl.

The real Earl.

Earl as created in late 2001 by P.J. Harmer as someone to use for a humor column at his school newspaper. However, after a few attempts with the humor aspect, the idea was kyboshed by the student advisor because it wasn't "journalism" and had no place in a newspaper.

So, Earl became more than humor - he discussed politics, sports and anything else going on in the world. He did it, still, with his wit and humor and all the same time, basically trying to show what Earl was originally supposed to be about.

It's taken a few years, but a dream of showing what Earl really was supposed to be is coming true with this book, which is tentatively scheduled for a Summer 2008 release.

The book, which will go through a professional editor or two, will be self-published and the plan isn't to make millions off it (hey, big publishers - sign me up!) Instead, the idea is to do it on a small level, make a few bucks and hopefully be able to make a lot of people laugh along the way. And who knows, maybe Earl II will be in the works, depending on feedback and how the first does.

After the first of the year (Jan. 1, 2008 for those who were wondering when I meant!) I plan on trying to update this site a bit at a time. Join the forum, read the blog and sign up Earl as your friends on MySpace and Facebook! Earl will be stopping by to write his thoughts on the blog and will be reading everything else. He recently got a laptop, circa 1998, and has dial-up, so he's on the 'Net now!

Earl's antics will be hopefully well-received and feel free to drop thoughts and comments on the message board!
